Family of girl hit by SUV facing charges after assaulting driver


The 10-year-old girl who was hit by a vehicle on Yorktown Road yesterday afternoon is in good condition and expected to be released later today, according to the SMCSO. 

The 72-year-old driver, Linda Glaser was also injured after being pulled from her vehicle and assaulted following the crash. Police say that at this time, one of the girl's family members is facing charges for the assault. 

Additional investigation has shown that alcohol and speed were not factors in yesterday's pedestrian crash that severely injured a 10-year-old girl, police say. 

On July 11, 2018, at approximately 3:00 P.M. deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 46000 block of Yorktown Road in Lexington Park, for the reported motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival deputies located a 2003 GMC Envoy operated by Linda Glaser, age 72 of Lexington Park, in the roadway. Glaser was traveling south on Yorktown Road in the area of Suwanne Place, where an ice cream truck was stopped on the opposite side of the road. As Glaser was passing the ice cream truck, a 10 year old juvenile pedestrian ran into the roadway from behind the ice cream truck. The juvenile was struck by Glaser’s vehicle and sustained incapacitating injuries. Following the collision Glaser was assaulted by an individual(s) in the neighborhood; that case is currently under investigation. The juvenile was transported by Trooper 7 to a local trauma center; Glaser was transported to a local hospital for incapacitating injuries. The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and continued the accident investigation.

UPDATE 5:30 P.M.- has been able to confirm with a spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office that there is an open assault case at the location of the crash. However, no details could be provided as to what occurred or why there is an open assault case at this time. is working closely with the Sheriff's Office to obtain those details as soon as possible.

The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office has confirmed the pedestrian struck by the SUV is a not a woman but a 10-year-old child. Additional details will be updated as information becomes available.  

A source from the scene who wishes to remain anonymous reports hearing a loud noise outside of their home and seeing a woman trapped under the wheel of an SUV with severe injuries to her legs and head. After EMS arrived, she was transported to Millison Plaza where she was flown to a trauma center with life threatening injuries, according to an officer on scene. 

A large police presence has been reported in the area of the crash. Motorists are being denied access to Yorktown Road. 

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. - On July 11 at approximately 3:10 p.m., crews responded to Yorktown Road and Suwanne Place, Lexington Park for the report of a struck pedestrian. A medevac has been requested to transport the injured pedestrian, use caution in the area.
