Frederick John Schoenstein, 85, of Suitland, MD passed away on Wednesday July 4, 2018. Born February 7, 1933 in Washington, DC the son of the late Leo and Edith (Woodard) Schoenstein. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia Ann (Zell) Schoenstein who passed in 2015 and loving father of the late John Frederick Schoenstein who passed in 2013. He is survived by his daughter Patricia Ann Saukel (Aloysius); grandchildren Dakota Saukel, Aneliese Hight (Casey) and SSgt Zeke Saukel, great-grandchildren Nevaeh and Cecilia Hight; step-great-grandchildren Mikayla and Chase Hight. He is also survived by his loving nephew Lawrence Magrogan and cousin Sharon Walsh.

He was married to Patricia Ann Zell (Schoenstein) for 65 years before her death in 2015. Together they had two children; Patricia Ann and John Frederick. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 14, 1953 and was honorably discharged on February 28, 1955. He was stationed in Panama ans was an artist in the Army.

After his discharge, Fred worked for the Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head, MD for more than 35 years. He enjoyed watching westerns on TV westerns, working in his yard, and watching thunderstorms. He also enjoyed hosting crab feasts, cookouts and shooting basketball with his family in his backyard. We will miss hearing his always funny “Ribbit” response whenever you said something he liked.
