St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office crime report

2nd Degree Assault - On July 24, 2013, Deputies responded to a residence on Mechanicsville Road, Mechanicsville, Maryland, for a disturbance.  Cpl. Shaun Carberry met with Francis Wayne Bridgett, 50 of Mechanicsville, Maryland.  Cpl. Carberry upon contact with Bridgett observed signs of intoxication and observed the window in the residence to be shattered.  When Cpl. Carberry inquired about the broken window, he learned Bridgett and another occupant inside of the residence had been involved in an argument.  The argument escalated into a physical assault when Bridgett pushed the victim into the window, causing the window to shatter and lacerations to the victim’s back.  Bridgett was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Assault.

2nd Degree Assault - On July 23, 2013, Deputies responded to the area of Drayden Road and Uplands Lane in Drayden, Maryland, for the report of a male and female fighting in the street.  Deputy Timothy Shomper met with the victim who advised James Francis Morgan Jr., 38 of Drayden, Maryland, pushed her to the ground after an argument causing her injury.  Deputy Shomper was unable to locate Morgan however, on July 24, 2013 at 12:26 a.m., Deputy Shomper responded to the area of Flat Iron Road in reference to Morgan chasing the victim in a vehicle.  Deputy Shomper located the vehicle and Morgan inside of the vehicle.  Morgan was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Assault.

Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance and Paraphernalia - On July 24, 2013, Deputy Austin Schultz and Deputy William Bankhead responded to a residence on White Drive in Charlotte Hall, Maryland, for an assault.  Deputies made contact with the parties involved and upon contact with Charles Leroy Johnson, 59 of Charlotte Hall, Maryland; Deputy Schultz observed in plain view a suspected marijuana cigarette.  Further investigation revealed the cigarette to contain suspected marijuana.  Search Incident to arrest of Johnson revealed additional suspected marijuana on Johnson’s person.  Johnson was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of Paraphernalia.

2nd Degree Assault - On July 24, 2013, Cpl. Elizabeth Goodwin was outside of St. Mary’s Hospital, when witnesses approached her and advised of an assault occurring in a vehicle in the parking lot.  Cpl. Goodwin made contact with Charles Andrew Smith, 33 of Lexington Park, Maryland, and the victim.  Cpl. Goodwin observed the victim to be crying and have numerous injuries to her face.  The victim advised she was involved in an argument with Smith when he became enraged and began to assault her.  Deputy James Lloyd responded to the scene and Smith was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Assault.
