The Office of the State Fire Marshal has started an investigation of a June 13, 2019 fire at Openfield Place in Hughsville.

Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department, along with other Charles County Volunteer Fire and EMS units, responded at approximately 7:26 p.m. to a reported house fire at Openfield Place in Hughesville where they extinguished a fire that started in the basement of the home and moved to the first floor, according to The Office of the State Fire Marshal.

"The fire occurred in the basement of the home as the result of a Carpenter blower fan being left on," the State Fire Marshal's report reads in part. "The basement and first floor of the home suffered significant damage from the fire."

The fire is believed to be accidental at this time. Although the home was reported by the State Fire Marshal to be a $300,000 loss to the owner, no lives were lost and no injuries were reported.
