The owners of the Tiki Bar donated $1,000 to the Solomon’s Island Volunteer Fire Department on Friday afternoon to support volunteer operations in 2008.

52-year member John Lankford arrived at the Tiki Bar with a few volunteers and a fire truck Friday to receive the check. Lankford is past president of the Calvert Volunteer Firemen’s Association and the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen’s Association.

The Tiki Bar donates thousands of dollars each year to local agencies, including the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Make a Wish Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, and they help organize an annual fishing trip for disabled veterans from Walter Reed Medical Center.

Tiki Bar Co-Owner Patrick Donovan said they will soon be donating $4,000 to the county’s public bus agency, for providing free rides during the bar’s annual opening day celebration in April.
