Business is brewing at Mully’s Brewery thanks to CEDLF

Pictured here are Mully’s Brewery owners Cindy and Jason Mullikin setting up their new canning equipment. The machinery was purchased with a loan award from the Calvert County Economic Development Loan Fund.

The CEDLF provides direct loans to eligible Calvert County businesses when conventional financing is unavailable. The loan enabled owners Cindy and Jason Mullikin to purchase their own canning equipment, saving rental fees and paving the way for future business growth.

“What makes this [funding] option great is the fact that the county is investing in county businesses and helping them grow,” said Cindy Mullikin. “We were drawn to this financing option because they were willing to work with our specific needs and capabilities.”

Founded in 2013, Mully’s began canning their product two years ago through a canning company that brought mobile equipment to the Mully’s brewing facility in Prince Frederick.

“Now that we will be canning in house, we will see significant savings in our packaging costs as well as more flexibility on when and how much we package,” Mullikin said.

Mullikin expects the new canning capability to create additional job opportunities and enable Mully’s to provide a packaging solution for other breweries in the area.

The CEDLF is designed to help fund new capital expansion projects, increase the commercial tax base, and increase business and employment opportunities in Calvert County. CEDLF funds can be used for infrastructure improvements, construction or renovations, staff training, professional consulting services, machinery and equipment expenses, or working capital. Fifteen loans have been awarded since the program began in 1997 with loan amounts ranging from $2,500 to $100,000.
