ANNAPOLIS, MD, May 8, 2017 – Southern Prince George’s County businessman Jesse Peed announced today his candidacy for the Legislative District 27 Senate seat currently held by Senate President Mike Miller.  He made the announcement in front of a small crowd at the Maryland State Board of Elections Office in Annapolis.

Peed is a life-long resident of southern Maryland and Prince George’s County, with the exception of 8 years during his own and his step-father’s military service.  While he plans to remain here for life, Peed is concerned about policies that convinced his friends to move out of the state.  “It’s such a shame that people who have lived here for generations find it necessary to leave Maryland to have financial security in their retirement.”

Peed comes to politics after raising his 4 children and building a business with Kathy, his wife of 32 years. He is the former chairman of the Prince George’s County Republican Central Committee on which he still serves.

“After 30 years, Mike Miller is the longest serving Senate President in America.  His anti-business and anti-jobs policies have pushed enough Marylanders out of this state in his 46 years of legislating in the General Assembly.  It’s time to retire Mike Miller,” says Peed, who adds, “I will welcome his long-overdue retirement and look forward to serving the people of Calvert, Charles, and Prince George’s counties and the state of Maryland.”
