Fiery crash in Dunkirk area injures one


Dunkirk, MD - Calvert County Fire and Rescue authorities reported Sunday morning, April 14 that at 7:31 a.m.hours, units from Dunkirk and North Beach were alerted for the motor vehicle accident at Route 260 and Jewell Road. Reports indicated a car was on fire with one person trapped.

According to the Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department public information officer, crews "arrived on location with a two-vehicle head-on accident with one person unconscious. Prior to fire department arrival, two Good Samaritans were able to free the lady from the burning vehicle."

Due to the weather, emergency helicopters were grounded. The injured woman was taken by ambulance to a regional hospital.

The crash is under investigation by the Calvert County Sheriff's Office and a report is pending.
