Crews work to shut off gas leak at St. Charles Towne Centre

Correction: TheBayNet.com has received information indicating that the Sears Department Store was not evacuated during the gas leak Monday morning, April 9. The gas leak was repaired later that afternoon by utility workers.

Washington Gas is on the scene of the gas leak at the St. Charles Towne Centre. It may take up to an hour for them to shut off the gas line, officials say. Gas may settle in low lying areas, especially downwind and above waterways. Use caution in the area. 


WALDORF, Md. - The St. Charles Towne Centre Sears Department Store has been evacuated after contractors working in the area hit a 4" main gas line around 10:30 a.m., according to reports.

The lower level of the mall may also be evacuated shortly. First Responders are on the scene providing assistance.
