Coastal flood warning issued for St. Mary's County

HOLLYWOOD, Md. - The following weather advisory has been issued in St. Mary's County: 

The National Weather Service in Baltimore MD/Washington has
issued a Coastal Flood Warning, which is in effect until 6 PM EDT
this evening. A Coastal Flood Advisory has also been issued. This
Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 6 PM this evening to
7 AM EDT Tuesday. The Coastal Flood Advisory is no longer in

* LOCATIONS...Shoreline in St. Marys County.

* TIDAL DEPARTURE...Around 2.0 feet above normal.

* TIMING...Around the time of high tide through Tuesday morning.
High tide at Piney Point will be at 3:35 pm this afternoon and
3:41 am early Tuesday morning. High tide at Coltons Point is at
4:11 PM this afternoon and at 4:17 AM early Tuesday morning.
High tide at Point Lookout is at 2:32 PM this afternoon and at
2:49 AM early Tuesday morning.

* IMPACTS...Water is expected to cover roads on St. Georges
Island, be in yards, and approach structures this afternoon. To
the east, inundation is expected at multiple marinas off St.
Mary`s River, Smith Creek, and Jutland Creek. Shoreline
inundation is possible elsewhere.
Tonight, water is expected to go over a portion of the bulkhead
near the Straits Point bridge, and also cover yards in the St
Georges Creek and St Marys River areas. Minor shoreline
inundation is possible elsewhere.
Forecast tides are referenced to mean lower low water
(MLLW) and mean higher high water (MHHW) unless
otherwise noted. Time of high total tide is
approximate to nearest hour. Total tide combines the
normal tide and departure from normal. Flood impact
is based on the total tide and waves where applicable.

Instructions: A Coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert for rising water, and take appropriate action to protect life and property. A Coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
