Charles County hosts 6th Annual Maryland DogFest

La Plata, MD- Charles County is going to the dogs this weekend! It’s the 6th Annual Maryland DogFest at the Charles County Fairgrounds April 29 and 30.

Thousands of dog lovers and their furry family members can celebrate everything canine during the two-day event. You’ll find plenty of entertainment for your furry friends, as well as dozens of dog-related exhibitors. There will be performances by the Marvelous Mutts, an agility course, a flying disc competition, lure chasing, canine demonstrations, weight pulling, training exhibits, AKC good citizen testing, and paw painting.

The Main Stage will host a variety of family-friendly, interactive shows and contests. Events include a dog and owner look-a-like contest, Dogs Got Talent competition, doggy fashion show, training seminars and a costume contest.

If you’re looking to add a new dog to your family, you can also visit with dozens of dogs who are available for adoption. Over the last five years, hundreds of dogs have been adopted at the event. Rescue, shelter, and adoption groups will be on hand in the Adoption Zone to assist individuals who are looking to add a new member to their family.

Shorty Rossi, from Animal Planet’s Pit Boss, will be the special guest. He is a Pit Bull rescuer and activist. Rossi is also well known for promoting breed awareness, fighting Breed Specific Legislation, fighting for animal rights, and supporting spay and neuter clinics. "As a proud supporter of dog rescues and shelters, Maryland DogFest is honored to have Shorty Rossi as our featured guest," said Nick Simonds, event coordinator.

Leashed dogs are invited to attend as long as they “paw-sitively” meet these rules and regulations.
1. Dog Owners/ Handlers must abide by the rules set forth and must sign a waiver for each dog.
2. Dogs must be well mannered. All dogs MUST be kept on a leash (no longer than 6 ft.) or in an enclosure or enclosed in a dog-friendly enclosure (strollers, etc). Please NO retractable leashes!
3. For the safety of both our human and canine attendees, your dog must be up-to-date on all its vaccinations.
4. Your dog should be wearing a collar with proper ID (if possible).
5. NO female dogs in heat!
6. When bringing your dog to Maryland DogFest, please use common sense! If your dog gets nervous around large crowds or does not interact well with people or other dogs, is not social, please leave them home.
7. ALL dog owners bringing dogs to Maryland DogFest will be asked to sign a liability waiver upon entrance to Maryland DogFest.
8. If your dog should have an accident, clean up stations are located throughout the grounds. It is your responsibility to clean up after your dog!! Failure to do so can result in immediate removal from the show.

The 6th annual Maryland Dogfest is presented by VeRUS Pet Foods. The pet food company, which is headquartered in Abingdon, MD, puts their focus into making food with only the highest quality, nutritional ingredients.
