Today! Paul Dickson performs at Guitar Fest

CALLAWAY, Md. - Paul Dickson will be a performing guitar artist at the PJMA  7th Annual Guitar Fest on March 9 at the 5 South Event Center in Callaway.

Paul Dickson started playing in high school. He loved air jamming to southern rock so he decided to learn how to play. He has been playing 40 years since then, however he put serious effort in for the first six years and the last five years.  There was no one in the family to influence his music so he found himself being inspired by a wide range of musicians such as Dave Lubeck (Molly Hatchet), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), and Jimmy Buffet.  Not too surprising then that his first performance was in 1983 at a South Eastern Bikers Association Birthday Party and his style of guitar is a mix of heavy metal and acoustic pop.

He did a recording in with his band Hook Line and Sinkers playing Rhythm guitarist on “Playing in Reel Time” CD. At the Guitar Fest he will be playing on a Martin GPPCPA 1 plus singing and strumming out some Jimmy Buffet, Darius Rucker, John Prine, and Creedence Clear Water Revival.

When asked what his future plans are he said “I want to be a street vendor and just hang out playing and let people enjoy (just playing for beer money).”

Guitar Fest 2019 is sponsored by a Touring Artist grant from Maryland State Arts Council. The headliner is Jay Armsworthy and Eastern Tradition. The other featured artist is Davis Norris and supporting guitar artists are Bob Schaller and Friends, Landry Slaughter, Drew Zimmerman, and Prophessor.

The fest starts with a workshop with bluegrass guitarist Jay Armsworthy, from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by a guitar concert from 7 to 11 p.m.  Art work by local artist will be out on display. Additional information is available on the web site
