The overall cost of damage from the fire is estimated to be $230,000.

Update:  A reporter who was on the scene, was able to speak to two witnesses who lived in the apartment next to the fire. Golden Thompson told that her grandson, who is 14, "came running into the house, and said grandma call 911, there's a fire next door." She said she followed him back outside, where she said "she could see very heavy smoke, and very high flames."

Another witness, Agnes Clark, told, that she had left her house to run up the street, and everything was fine. She stated, "I was gone maybe five or 10 minutes, and when I came back, there was nothing but thick smoke. The smoke was so thick, I had to stop my car to let the smoke settle a bit, so I could continue driving home. When I got closer, all I could see was flames." Clark also stated that she "started knocking on everyone's doors to get them out in case it spread or there was an explosion."  Clark said she also dialed 911 once she realized it was a building on fire.

The fire marshal has been contacted to determine the cause of the blaze. One person was injured during the blaze and taken to MedStar St. Mary's Hospital for treatment.
