Man sentenced for stabbing

Leonardtown, MD- A Lexington Park man was sentenced Monday, Feb. 26 for a stabbing in February of 2017.

Joseph Charles Swales, now 56, was sentenced to five years in prison, with all but one year suspended after pleading guilty to second-degree assault.

Swales stabbed the victim Feb. 22, 2017 inside a home on Dana Court. The victim suffered stab wounds to the upper torso and was flown to a shock trauma center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

In October of 2017, Swales pleaded guilty to second-degree assault—the charge of first-degree assault was nolle prosequi in exchange for the plea.
