House fire kills two pets, displaces family

California, MD - On Sat. March 3 at 6:02 p.m., a house fire on the 4500 block on Clarks Road, California was discovered by a neighbor as the family was not home at the time. Twenty firefighters led by the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department managed to control the flames in five minutes.

Power had just recently been restored to the house, and further investigation determined the fire to be caused by an accidental electrical issue in the kitchen microwave. Two pets were killed in the fire and two other pets are unaccounted for. The overall cost of damage is estimated to be around $70,000. The occupants of the home are currently displaced as a result of the damage but are being assisted by family and friends.


CALIFORNIA, MD - On March 2 at 5:26 p.m., crews responded to reports of a structure fire located on the 45000 block of Clarks Road near St. Clair Road in California. Arriving units report that smoke is showing the roof of the house. Units are currently on scene.
