Catherine Rose Hatton, 86, of Sun City West, AZ passed away March 5, 2018, peacefully at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was born June 28, 1931 in Riverton, WV to the late Martin Judy and Violet Huffman.

Rose was raised in rural West Virginia. She moved to Washington DC with her mother as a young girl. 

She met her husband Homer “Steve” Hatton in the early 1950s while Steve was serving in the US Navy. Rose and Steve spent the early part of their married life in San Diego, CA before relocating to Hillcrest Heights, Maryland.   Rose and Steve attend Corkran United Methodist Church in Temple Hills, MD and the First Baptist Church of Suitland, Maryland during their time in Maryland. During the 80s, Rose and Steve relocated to Waldorf to raise their family.

For the last 20 years of Steve’ life, Rose and Steve moved to Sun City West, AZ. Rose was active with the Sun City West Woman’s Club during her time in Arizona.

When Steve passed away 3 years ago, Rose moved to Leonardtown, MD to live with her daughter Debbie and niece Heather.

Rose was adored by her friends for her engaging personality and her genuine love for all her friends and family. Rose became well known during her life as a baker. Every holiday and special occasion was marked by a cake. Over time, Rose developed a small; home-based business selling custom cakes for birthdays, special occasions and weddings. Rose cherished her time in Arizona and spent most of her free time with friends playing bunko and mahjong.

Rose’s fondest memories were childhood summers spent in West Virginia with her Aunt Lela, picking strawberries and holidays with her mother, sister and extended family and the wonderful time she spent in Arizona. She loved line dancing, playing cards and board games and taking bus excursions to casinos. Rose loved classic movies, watching game shows and cooking shows on television and listening to Barbara Streisand sing.

Rose is survived by her children; Debra Lynne Knight of Leonardtown, MD, Daniel Martin Hatton (Patricia) and Stefanie Lee Raya (Robert), Grandchildren; Heather Foster (Kurt), David Knight, Sarah Wright Hatton, Robert Raya, Jr. and Christina Raya, Great Grandchildren; Emma Foster, Parker Foster and Kenneth Knight, and her sister Lucy Lee Haines.

Rose is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Homer George Hatton, siblings; Roscoe Judy and Larry Lough and Grandson David Knight.
