Eric Lamont Figeroux

La Plata, MD – Eric Lamont Figeroux, 20 of Waldorf was one of four men arrested in connection with the Aug. 7, 2014 home invasion and robbery in the 5300 block of Nelson Point Road in Indian Head.

Friday, Feb. 12, Figeroux pled guilty before Charles County Circuit Court Judge H. James West and was sentenced to four years in the Maryland Department of Corrections in Jessup.

Figeroux was the gunman in a shooting on an elementary school playground during a pickup basketball game, Charles County Assistant State’s Attorney Francis Granados told the court.

“Mr. Figeroux was on a bit of a tear,” Granados said, citing the shooting, the home invasion and theft co-defendant James Deontre Thompson was sentenced for Thursday, Feb. 11, and possession of morphine.

Granados said the defendant also became involved in an assault on another inmate at the Charles County Detention Center while being held on the robbery and assault charges, and spit on an officer while incarcerated.

“I’m hoping this is a wake-up call for Mr. Figeroux,” Grandados stated.

Charles County Assistant Public Defender Michele Harewood admitted that her client was “very hotheaded.

“Yes, he was involved in a whole bunch of things in a short period of time,” she said. “He is a young man. I hope he is a candidate for probation.”

While calling it an “interesting case,” West said the plea arrangement obliged him to give Figeroux four years in department of corrections for the reckless endangerment charge. There was a possession of morphine charge for which the judge tacked on four years concurrent to the initial sentence, and a second-degree assault charge for which he added another concurrent four-year sentence.

On two second-degree assault charges Figeroux received duplicate 10-year sentences, which were all suspended but will hang over the defendant’s head of he doesn’t obey all laws upon his release.

Figeroux was given 315 days credit for time already served, placed on five years of supervised probation, ordered to undergo and mental evaluation as part of his sentence.
