County Commissioners Proclaim National Multiple Sclerosis Week

  • By

The Charles County Commissioners recently acknowledged Multiple Sclerosis Week in Charles County with a proclamation aimed at bringing more attention to the dreaded disease that affects  over 400,000 people in the United States, and may affect 2.5 million people worldwide.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, progressive illness that affects the nerves, brain, spinal cord, and other parts of the central nervous system. MS is a autoimmune disease, which means the body's immune system targets itself, attacking cells, tissues and organs. If you have MS, you're not alone because the disease affects over 400,000 people in the United States and may affect 2.5 million people worldwide.

Statistics show that MS affects 2-3 times as many women as men. If you are experiencing bouts of feeling tired, blurred vision or trouble concentrating, you may be in the early stages of MS. See a physician immediately if you have additional concerns or questions.
