Irma Bessie Tayman

Irma S. Tayman, 89 of Upper Marlboro, MD passed away on January 4, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD with her family at her side. Irma was born on October 4, 1929 to the late Thomas W. Sweeney and the late Mary Eleanora Stamp Sweeney in Nottingham, MD. Irma worked 29 years as an Executive Administrative Aide for the Department of Public Works for P.G. County. She cherished her time with family and enjoyed cooking fried chicken, potato salad and cookies for them. Irma volunteered 13 years for the Baden Food Pantry where she began the monthly milk donation program through Brookfield United Methodist Church, which continues today.

In addition to her parents, Irma was predeceased by her husband, Lewis Vincent Tayman; brothers, Thomas Weldon Sweeney, Harvey L. Sweeney, James B. Sweeney, Thomas Lyle Sweeney and her sister Beulah F. Printz. She is survived by her son, Lewis Steven Tayman, Sr. (Stephanie) of Bolivia, NC; her daughters Sandra L. Kidwell (Gene) of Upper Marlboro, MD, Sharon M. Buckler (James) of King George, VA; her sister, Theresa Griffith of Iowa; 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Irma is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends for Irma’s visitation on Thursday, January 10, 2019 from 10am to 12pm at Brookfield United Methodist Church, 12806 Croom Road, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772 with Pastor John Warren officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be in Irma’s name to Brookfield United Methodist Church.

Pallbearers will be: Ed Barcikowski, Tony Buckler, Jack Casey, Matthew Moreland, Randy Sweeney, Lewis S. Tayman, Sr., Lewis S. Tayman, Jr. and Ben Barcikowski.
