Charles County man charged with mother's murder

Waldorf, MD - Charles County Sheriff’s detectives arrested Mario Marchell Dunn, 32 of Waldorf in connection with the murder of his mother, Swanda Ruegenea Dunn, 57 of Waldorf, whose body was found on January 11 on Old Washington Road near Smallwood Drive. Dunn is accused of stabbing his mother while they were driving home from a relative’s house. After the murder, Dunn removed his mother from the vehicle and left her in the roadway. Dunn was arrested on January 11 after detectives identified the victim and served a search warrant at her house–where her son lived–and recovered evidence linking him to the crime. A clear motive has not been established. Dunn was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, assault and other related charges. Detective J. Long is investigating.

Waldorf, MD - Charles County detectives are hoping to identify the victim of a homicide whose body was found Thursday night, Jan. 11 on Old Washington Road near Smallwood Drive in Waldorf. Unfortunately she did not have any identification on her person when she was located. The victim, who is described as a black female possibly in her late 30s to 40s,  had two distinct tattoos: a cherub and a design.  The Cherub Angel Tattoo, is on her left shoulder blade. A design of some sorts is on her right inner wrist. She was wearing a black top with gray leggings. Anyone who believes they may know the victim based on this description, is asked to call 301-932-2222.

UPDATE 10:25 p.m.

Waldorf, MD - Charles County authorities confirmed that detectives are investigating the suspicious death of an unidentified adult female Thursday evening, Jan. 11.

According to Charles County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Diane Richardson, the woman's body was discovered by a citizen around 8:50 p.m. on Old Washington Road near Smallwood Drive in Waldorf. "She had trauma to the body and was pronounced deceased," Richardson stated.

The Charles County Sheriff's Office's investigation is ongoing. Further details on the incident are pending.

Waldorf, MD - at 9:25 p.m. the Charles County Sheriff's Office reported a road closure. Old Washington Road closed at Smallwood Drive at the Park and Ride due to police activity in the area.
