Update - Suspect at large after shooting in Lexington Park

UPDATE 1/4/18 4:40 p.m. - On January 4, 2018, at approximately 1:45 PM, deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and troopers from the Maryland State Police, responded to the area of St. Mary’s Square, located on Great Mills Road, for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, a male victim, age 27, was found to have sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body.  The victim was flown by Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 7, to a regional trauma center for treatment.

A person of interest is being sought; the individual is described as an African American male who at the time of this incident was wearing all black, and may have been wearing an orange or red knit cap/mask.  This person was last seen on foot running towards the Patuxent Homes area located on Great Mills Road.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Melissa Hulse at (301) 475-4200 extension *1996 or by email at Citizens may remain anonymous and contact the Sheriff’s Office at (301) 475-8008, or Crime Solvers at (301) 475-3333, or text a tip to “TIP239” plus their message to “CRIMES” (274637).

UPDATE - Police notification via Nixel:

"St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office/Maryland State Police are currently investigating a shooting in the area of Great Mills Road/St. Mary's Square. Possible suspect was seen running towards Patuxent Homes; suspect is described as an African American male, wearing all black and may possibly have an orange knit hat on.

Please avoid this area."

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. - On January 4 at 1:46 p.m. the 9-1-1 emergency service dispatched a call for an assault located in St. Mary's Square off of Great Mills Road  in Lexington Park.

When authorities arrived, the victim was found injured with a gunshot wound and in need of a helicopter medevac. The victim is currently being transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment. The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office reports that the suspect is still at large and police are currently investigating the scene.

Citizens in the area should use extreme caution. This is a developing story.
