Mechanicsville man sentenced for rape of juvenile girl

Anton Cortez Queen

Leonardtown, MD- A Mechanicsville man was sentenced Tuesday, Jan. 30 for the second-degree rape of a juvenile girl. Anton Cortez Queen, now 23, was arrested in May 2017 after police investigated a sex offense against a 12-year-old girl.

Queen, who was 22 at the time, was charged with three counts of rape in the second degree and sex abuse of a minor. Police say he engaged in sexual acts with the daughter of the woman he was living with. In September 2017, Queen pleaded guilty to one count of second degree rape.

During the sentencing, the victim’s mother spoke about the impact of the abuse on her daughter, who is suffering PTSD and receiving therapy. Queen apologized to his family and the family of the victim for his actions. “I’m taking responsibility for my actions. This is my first time in jail and hopefully my last.” Queen noted he’s going to church, working on completing his GED and taking a creative writing class.

Judge David W. Densford noted the pre-sentencing investigation revealed only one prior conviction for trespassing and no infractions during his incarceration. “However, you did take advantage of a child,” Densford commented.

Queen was sentenced to 20 years in prison, with 10 years suspended. Densford also sentenced him to five years of supervised probation upon release.
