Garage fire destroys vehicles, damages house

MECHANICSVILLE. Md. - On January 6 at 3:13 a.m., crews from the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call for a detached garage fire located on West Spicer Drive in Mechanicsville. The fire was discovered by a neighbor of the homeowners, James and Kimberly Hill and was controlled in 45 minutes by 35 responding firefighters.

Upon further investigation, the cause of the fire was found to be from a malfunction with a wood burning stove inside the garage. Several vehicles being stored in the garage were damaged or destroyed in the fire. The heat from the fire also caused damage to a neighboring house. The estimated cost of damage from the fire is estimated be $150,000.
