Video - Transformer explodes as vehicle splits utility pole

UPDATE: Exclusive video released from the scene of a single vehicle accident occurring on the night of Jan. 15 on Point Lookout Road.

Park Hall, MD - On Jan. 15 at 11:34 p.m., the 911 communications center in Leonardtown received a phone call for a motor vehicle collision on Point Lookout Road in the area of Cook's Store. 

Arriving units investigated a single vehicle collision in which the vehicle struck an electrical pole, causing it to snap in half and shred across the roadway. The power lines coming down caused a tree underneath the power lines to catch fire. The tree catching fire caused additional wires to come down. 

A helicopter was requested for the driver of the vehicle, however, the last report indicated the injured motorist was being transported to a regional trauma center via ambulance. It is unknown at this time the condition of the driver, or what caused this collision. A police report on the the incident is pending.

Point Lookout Road is closed in both directions and is expected to be closed for several hours. Motorists who are bound for this area should find an alternate route.
