Owings, MD - A two-vehicle collision at the Route 4-Mount Harmony Road intersection in Owings Monday evening, Jan. 9 resulted in serious injuries to one of the drivers involved, police and fire department officials reported.
According to Jonathan Riffe of the Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department (Company 5), the crash occurred at approximately 10:44 p.m. After the collision one of the vehicles veered off the roadway and struck a commercial building. The motorist was trapped inside the damaged vehicle. Six members of Company 5 “performed a complete sidewall removal, extricating the trapped person,” Riffe stated. The motorist was then flown to Prince George’s Hospital as a precaution. According to Sgt. Bennett at the Maryland State Police Barracks in Prince Frederick, investigation of the crash is continuing and charges are pending. No names have been released.
The commercial building houses Merillat Pools. A female employee told TheBayNet.com that the vehicle struck two boulders located in front of the structure, breaking one in two, before hitting the building. Damage to the building did not appear severe and the pool company was open for business despite the incident.
