Ellynne en Pointe - A month of celebration and change

Today, Wednesday, Jan. 14, weather permitting, I’ll be travelling to Annapolis to attend the Ceremonial Oath of Office and Reception to congratulate our brand-new, locally-elected candidates: Delegate Deb Rey (who will be serving on the Judiciary Committee and who believes that she may be the first female delegate from St. Mary’s County - she’s still researching this subject!), Senator Steve Waugh, who will serve on the Health and Education Committee, and Delegate Matt Morgan who will serve on the Health and Government Operations Committee. The swearing-in ceremony will be held in the State House at noon.

On Jan. 21, Inaugural events are scheduled to honor our new governor, Lawrence Hogan, and his lieutenant governor, Boyd Rutherford. At noon that day the swearing-in ceremony will be held at the State House in Annapolis followed by a public reception and receiving line at 1:30 p.m. Note that both of these are free public events.

At 6:30 p.m. that night, the Inaugural Sponsors and VIP Reception will be held at the Baltimore Hilton on 401 Pratt Street followed by the Inaugural Gala at the Baltimore Convention Center at 1 W. Pratt Street (both of these are ticketed events).

Celebrations will continue Saturday, Jan. 24 during the People’s Celebration at 6 p.m. to be held at Sailwinds Park in Cambridge (tickets are required), and Sunday, Jan. 25, when a community event is scheduled from 1 to 3:30 p.m. with First Lady Yumi Hogan and Mrs. Monica Rutherford at Howard County Community College’s gymnasium located at 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway in Columbia. This is a free event, but you must RSVP.

Hooray for the Opening Day of the 114th Congress Jan. 6 which saw the swearing-in of the largest Republican majority in almost a century.

The next meeting of the Republican Club of St. Mary’s County, Greg Sauter, President, will be held Thursday, Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m. in its new location, Stoney’s Clarke’s Landing Restaurant. Guest Speaker is Diane Hussey, President of the Maryland Pro-Life Alliance. For more information, you may contact: smrcpresident@outlook.com.

The St. Mary’s County Republican Central Committee (SMCRCC), Julie Burk-Greer, chair, meets again Thursday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. at the F.O.P. Lodge on Chancellor’s Run Road in Great Mills. The job of the SMCRCC is to get more Republican’s elected, and MD GOP first vice-chair and SMCRCC member Mary Burke-Russell, currently liaison for St. Mary’s, Allegany and Charles counties, reports that there are now just over 1,000 more registered Republicans than Democrats in St. Mary’s County. To help raise money to foster the goals of the GOP in Maryland, you are invited to join the Century Club for $100 per year, or for $8.29 per month through Pay Pal. To join, you may contact: smcrep.org, or you may mail a check to P.O. Box 126, Hollywood, Md. 20636.

For more information on the SMC RCC you may contact: jbgreer@smcrep.org, (301)475-8709, or you may access the website at www.smcrep.org.
