Lawrence John ?Larry? Sifel of Mechanicsville, Maryland, loving husband of Jean R. Sifel and devoted father of Benjamin John Sifel, died suddenly on Monday, May 8, 2006 at the Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick, MD. He was 58 years old. Born on January 19, 1948 in Baltimore, Maryland to Irene Kralik Sifel and the late John Sifel. Larry moved to Mechanicsville, MD in 1978 where he began his trade as a Luthier Guitar Maker and Inlay Design. Trading as Pearl Works, Ltd with a shop in Charlotte Hall, MD, Larry crafted exquisite guitars for companies like Martin, PBS and Taylor. He was well known and admired for his custom inlay work and in fact holds several patents for inlay material. Occasionally, Larry could be caught playing guitar with family or friends, an activity that personified his love for music. He was a member of the Association of Stringed Instrument Artisans ASIA and the National Association of Music Merchants NAMM. Family will receive friends on Thursday, May 11, 2006 from 5PM to 6PM with a time of remembrance beginning at 6PM at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. 30195 Three Notch Rd. Charlotte Hall, MD. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Calverton School 300 Calverton School Road Huntingtown, MD 20639 or charity of one?s choice.
