Mike Bavani, sales manager at Hampton Inn Lexington Park, was the driver of the silver Nissan in the car accident that occurred on Monday, Aug. 11, involving a collision with a dark Nissan Xterra on State Route 235. The silver Nissan flipped after impact while the dark Nissan drove into a tree on the side of the road.

Bavani, 24 of Great Mills, has now been treated for minor injuries after being flown to PG Shock Trauma and has been able to recollect on the accident.

The incident occurred when Bavani was driving back to work on State Route 235. According to Bavani, when he was signaled into the turn lane he noticed a lady driving a Nissan Xterra. He explained that the driver began to pull out of the Veterinarian Hospital onto the highway but stopped when she saw him enter the lane.

“When I was within 10 feet of her she pulled out. I think she was either in a daze or thought I was turning into where she was pulling out of,” Bavani said. “I struck the car with no time to avoid the collision.”

Bavani said, “When I hit the car I was expecting a minor impact; definitely not anything minor.” Both of his airbags deployed and the collision sent the car airborne. “When the car landed on the roof all I remember seeing was sparks, glass and smoke.”

When the vehicle finally reached a stop, he exited the car through the passenger side window, according to Bavani.

“Since my adrenaline was so high I didn't experience any pain,” he said. When I turned around to look at the car I was shocked on the visible damage.”

Bavani explained that the paramedics arrived in matter of no time and made sure that he stayed still. They recommended that he be flown out of the accident to PG Shock Trauma. At the time, Bavani did not feel the need to be flown out but due to the condition of the vehicle, the paramedics felt it necessary.

“When I arrived to the Shock Trauma unit everyone was very accommodating to me,” Bavani said. As far as injury, only soreness and minor cuts were inflicted.

He explained that many people have judged and made assumptions about his accident, specifically dealing with the news article of the accident.

“People jump to answers based on what they see, not what they know,” he said. “Of course fingers will be pointed at a 24 year old with a modified car.”

Bavani would like others to know to pay attention to people merging into turn lanes.
