Slots Still Available for DriveCam
ST. MARY'S COUNTY - 7/27/2008
|
Southern Maryland DriveCam still has slots available in St. Mary’s, Charles and Calvert County for participants. The program is provided through a grant provided by the State Highway Administration’s Highway Safety Office. DriveCam, which views both the interior and exterior of the vehicle, only saves if a triggering event occurs, such as sudden braking or loss of control. The videos belong to the families and once reviewed by DriveCam are forwarded along with coaching tips to the parents via password protected account. Parents are encouraged to continue coaching their teens as then transition into independent driving. This tool has garnered such support in the mid-west that one vehicle insurance company not only funds the use in teen driver vehicles, but offers a 10% discount on their insurance for 3 years following it’s use. Parents are encouraged to get additional information and review the program by contact on of the area Coordinators. Please call Ms. Jackie Beckman in St. Mary’s County at (301) 475-4200 ext. 1850 or email jackie.beckman@co.saint-marys.md.us, or Ms. Rebecca Martin in Charles County at (301) 932-3056 or martinb@ccso.us, or Ms. Debbie Jennings in Calvert County at (410) 535-2200 or email jennindk@co.cal.md.us. |
