20 Charged in Counterfeit Merchandise Raids

LEXINGTON PARK and MECHANICSVILE - 6/22/2008

On June 20 and 21, police in St. Mary’s County conducted seizures of merchandise and made arrests at the Charlotte Hall Farmers Market, in Mechanicsville, and the Keep It Real Store, in Lexington Park.

The action was based on a two month BCI investigation into various vendors for the sale of illegal counterfeit items included music, movies, handbags, and various clothing.

Bureau of Criminal Investigations detectives from the Criminal and Narcotics Divisions were assisted by Maryland State Police and Sheriff’s Office Patrol officers, Maryland State Police Homeland Security & Intelligence Division, Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division, the Southern Maryland Information Center, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), The Motion Picture Industry, and the Clothing and Apparel Industry.

As a result of the operation 20 suspects were placed under arrest and charged with felony Counterfeit Producing, and Selling Charges, with penalties ranging up to 15 years in prison. Other individuals are facing possible future charges.

Counterfeit items with a retail value of $693,000 as well as over $3800 in cash were seized during the operation.

Udsidi Suw, Washington
Edgar St.Fleurant, Brooklyn NY
Leathon, L. Williamson, Alexandria
Reginald, W. Wilson, Bowie
Louis D. Young, Waldorf

The RIAA states that the U.S. economy loses approximately 300 million dollars yearly to music piracy alone.

i honestly feel that this situation is injustice. i was there while they were arrested and the government is taking away from our society and blue collar workers. all these white collar crimes taking place in the white house.
look at bush our economy is screwed because of him and his oil.
the workers who were arrested sell these products as a side job, it is there "hustle" to get by, extra pocket change to make ends meet with bills.
middle class workers know that the products arent 100% percent legit, but we made these self fulfilling prohecies for ourselves, just to get by and make ends meet, so going to the market buying a product that was bound to be thrown in the garbage by the designer themselves is treasure to a person who cannot afford the orginal design... society is greedy. while the police is taking away a strong backbone individual, whom support their families or are immigrants trying to make a differnece in their lives. Instead, they should be trying to prevent drug dealing, killing, and all the other violence which takes place in our community...
it's their duty to build our society. in contrast: arresting the 20 people brought mirco socilogical damage. the government did'nt just take something away from everyone; but their families and our community.

Is it that anytime some poor person gets into any kind of trouble concerning the law, they always bring up George W. Bush and all the laws he supposedly breaks and try to put the blame on anyone and everyone but themselves? In my "opinion" much of the economy is SCREWED due to ghetto trash that don't want to work for a living to make money, instead they are like leaches who suck the money out of the rest of us that do. Its your own fault you decided to sell fake merchandise. Maybe instead of ripping off other peoples designs, you should come up with some of your own. Maybe instead of having a side job in which you stated you knew was not 100% legit (a hustle? hahaha)...maybe you should get a real side job instead and not complain when you get yourself into trouble. Millions of blue collar "Americans" such as myself have done it, it's not that hard. Maybe if you and the others involved are trying to support the families you can't feed, maybe you should stop having so many damn kids in the first place. I have had it with ghetto trash welfare scum bags everywhere. Get a real job and stop complaining about bull shyt.

The worst thing a person can ever do is plan on having the government come to their aid. The government isn't there to give handouts. Look at Russia and Cuba. There's what happens when the government is 100% in charge of everything. I'm sick and tired of those of us who do things the proper way get shafted all the time. I buy a house I can afford, others buy one they have no business being in, and who gets screwed? ME!

Sorry, no sympathy here for those folks at Keep it Real (but sell fake). I will say, VirtousWomn, you're a great liberal. When something happens, blame Bush. He must have made them sell fake stuff, just like he steer's hurricanes into the US.

I'm not sure if your aware, but, they owned (granted it was kind of old) a BMW, a Chevy Suburban with what appears to me to be some big rims and atleast a system, and a store. What kind of side job could this possibly be? What regular job do they have that they couldn't pay for those rims and make ends meet? They're selling stuff that isn't meant to be sold. That's called counterfeiting. It's no use to jump on the police, they're doing their job. Everytime someone does something wrong, they're so quick to blame the police. Let's face it, if you weren't doing wrong, the cops wouldn't have a reason to stop you or come shut down your 'store.'
That's just like people standing on a street corner at night and a cop slows down or stops and asks them what they're doing. It seems like people are so quick to say they're accusing them before the cop even gets a chance to say anything.

Maurice Queen, the only St. Mary's County resident arrested in this operation, has an extensive criminal history of victimizing people that includes burglary, drugs, battery, assault with intent to maim, and attempted murder. His arrest for counterfeiting is minor compared to the rest of his record, but it certainly shows that he is a habitual victimizer.
