River Concert Series Opens with a Great Time

This Friday saw the opening of the 10th annual River Concert Series in Historic St. Mary's City. The series premier saw fun, a food, and great music for all ages. The Bay Net was there to capture it all. Take a look at the pictures and see what is in store for future concerts.

Each year, St. Mary’s College of Maryland hosts the popular River Concert Series, conducted by internationally renowned recording artist, music director and conductor, Jeffrey Silberschlag. The series offers free concerts each Friday through July.

Concerts begin at 7 p.m. and the grounds open at 5 p.m. The shows are free to the public. There are refreshments and concessions for sale by a number of organizations and business to make the concert experience enjoyable for everyone.

Smokers.
The concert was very nice until the idiots behind us decided to light up cigarettes immediately after the concert (we like to sit and talk with friends after the concert). Asked them to put it out or leave and they responded "It's a college campus". So your socially unacceptable behavior is acceptable on a college campus? Why is it such a problem for smokers to leave the area to go smoke? Selfish individuals...

Oh, and by the way, I am a smoker myself - I am just conscious of the fact that everyone else should not be punished and forced to inhale/smell my smoke.

Sorry, have to disagree. If your "outside" I think the smoker has the right to light a cigarette. Not like your in close quarters and are "forced to inhale/smell the smoke" you may get a wiff of the smell but I think this NO SMOKING thing has gone far enough!!!

MAT5, That is the exact attitude that has ostrasized smokers from the rest of society. There were "no smoking" signs everywhere but I guess they didn't think it applied to them. Smokers need to be more self-conscious of the fact that no one else wants to "get a wiff of the smell" on a nice summer evening. If you are so lazy that you can't walk 100 feet to where people are not congregated then you should not be smoking at all - you are just giving the rest of us a bad rap.

Smoking is NOT allowed...
My husband and I attended the opening performance, fabulous as always.

In regards to the smoking issue...it is prohibited within the concert area and I believe on the school grounds altogether. There are signs up as you walk in from the parking alerting to the rule along with no dogs. We had a dog sitting in the middle of our section that a woman was trying to keep hidden. That's against the rules as well.

Hopefully tonight will be a totally positive event, including smokers and dog owners.
