At approximately 10:30 p.m. May 13, law enforcement personnel from the Maryland State Police Prince Frederick Barrack and Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 9-1-1 call for a man with a gun outside of residence on Big Bear Lane.

The caller identified the man as Robert McGinty. While en route, dispatchers updated the call advising that shots had been fired.

Upon arrival, a Sheriff’s Deputy discovered the victim, Juanita Bathsheba Evans, 31 of Lusby, lying on the ground at the side yard of the residence. The victim had one gunshot wounds to her chest.

She died a short time after arriving at Calvert Memorial Hospital.

A K9 track by the sheriff’s department led several houses down the street to Big Bear Lane where the suspect was discovered lying in the driveway, deceased, from a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The deceased was identified as Robert Douglas McGinty, 33, of Lusby.

The two were recently separated; there was no Protective Order on file.

The investigation is being continued by Trooper First Class Mounts of the Calvert Investigative Team.
