This past weekend Southern Maryland enjoyed a picture-perfect three days. The weather was balmy and bright, the newest attraction, Regency Furniture Stadium, opened to thousands of admirers and lo and behold, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs took the field by storm and swept Atlantic League team, the Lancaster Barnstormers in their first-ever home series. Friday night, after a gala celebration and grand opening ceremony for the new baseball venue, the Blue Crabs took a tough game 3 to 2. The teams squared off once again on Saturday and the Blue Crabs, once again took a tough one-run game. Finally, on Sunday, the Blue Crabs completed the sweep with another one-run squeaker to the thrill of fans. With the emotional opening ceremonies, the ensuing excellent baseball, and gala atmosphere, it is clear that Southern Maryland has come of age. Fans were impressed right through the final fireworks display and many intend to make the stadium and the excellent team a mainstay throughout the season. |
