St. Mary's Sailing Teams Place First in Three Regattas

 The St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s and coed sailing teams demonstrated why the Seahawks have been ranked No. 1 in back-to-back polls this season with three first-place finishes in four regattas.

 St. Mary’s claimed a first-place finish at the Women’s Brad Dellenbaugh Trophy hosted by Brown University in Providence, R.I.  The Seahawks notched a total of 110 points, besting second-place College of Charleston by 49.  The winning team consisted of seniors Adrienne Patterson (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Mattie Farrar (Blaine, Wash.), junior Jennifer Chamberlin (Alexandria, Va.) and sophomores Kelly Wilbur (Ipswich, Mass.) and Sara Flowe (Severna Park, Md.).

 The Seahawks took first at the Ted Ferrarone Team Race Intersectional hosted by the University of Rhode Island in Kingston with a score of 20-1 behind the efforts of juniors Alex Bishop (Bormes Les Mimosas, France) and Caitlin Hill (Tiverton, R.I.), sophomore Thomas Hale (Annapolis, Md.), and freshmen Michael Menninger (Newport Beach, Calif.), Frances Kupersmith (Alexandria, Va.) and Madeline Jackson (Seattle, Wash.).

 SMCM placed third at the North #1 Qualifier hosted by Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, N.Y.  Sailing at the regatta for the Seahawks were senior Derick Vranizan (Seattle, Wash.), junior Claire Collie (Narragansett, R.I.), and freshmen Frederick Whitman (Folly Beach, S.C.) and Meredith Powlison (Shelburne, Vt.).

 The Seahawks were also first at the Southern New England Team Race Regatta hosted by both Connecticut College and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy as St. Mary’s posted a 9-0 score.
