Brian Weisner, of Great Mills HS, Wins Coach of the Year
GREAT MILLS - 3/1/2008
|
Mr. Brian Weisner, Head Coach of the Great Mills High School Girls’ Basketball Team, has been selected as the Maryland 2007 Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High Schools Associations (NFHS) Coaches Association. The state coach of the year awards recognize coaches who have exhibited good sportsmanship and presented an exemplary role model for their student athletes. Service to the community and involvement in the NFHS Coaches Association are also key requirements for consideration. Outstanding coaching records, including the achievement of championships are also considered, but play a secondary role to the aforementioned criteria in the selection process. Mr. Weisner has held the position of head coach for eight seasons. During this time he has compiled a record of 112 wins and 81 loses. Great Mills High School won the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference in 2004-2005 and 2006-2007, and Coach Weisner was named Southern Maryland Athletic Conference Coach of the Year at the conclusion of both seasons. Mr. Weisner serves as the District Representative on the Girls' Basketball Committee for the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association. Mr. Weisner believes that “Participation in high school athletics affords student athletes the opportunity to learn discipline, motivation, and teamwork. Giving athletes a solid foundation in these characteristics will not only help them become successful individuals, but will also provide future adults who can positively contribute to the society in which they live.” |
