MSP St. Patrick's Day Saturation Patrol Results

On Saturday, March 17, 2012 @ 1900 hours, four Troopers from the MSP-Leonardtown Barrack participated in a Checkpoint Strikeforce DUI saturation patrol. The saturation covered areas in the middle part of St. Mary’s County, Maryland, specifically, California. During the operation, 32 vehicles were stopped; resulting in 2 subjects being arrested for DUI. One vehicle was searched based on probable cause, however, no arrest was made. 17 citations, 27 warnings and 3 SEROs were issued. At 2300 hours, the saturation patrol concluded, for a total time of 4 hours.

Also, on Saturday, March 17, 2012, three separate Troopers from the MSP-Leonardtown Barrack participated in an Aggressive Driving patrol. The aggressive driving patrol was focused on different areas of St. Mary’s County. During the operation, 27 vehicles were stopped, resulting in 13 citations & 17 warnings issued.


 

The combined efforts of the saturation patrol and the aggressive driving resulted in 30 citations issued, 44 warnings, 3 SEROs, 59 traffic stops & 2 DUI arrests.

Who is going to be the first one to say this - what a waste of dollars! It appears the 3 deputies on road patrol were more successful than the sobriety checkpoint deputies in terms of vehicles stopped and citations issued per deputy, with a lot less inconvenience to the general driving public. My question is - why can't the road patrol deputies do 'aggressive driving patrols' everyday? Why only 3 or 4 days a year? This seems to be more effective than checkpoints, and I'm sure a lot less costly.

I dont agree or disagree with you, however my reading comprehension levels difer from yours. From reading this article I was able to read the word TROOPER where you read DEPUTY. You may want to go back and enroll in 1st grade or maybe even K1 or just get a life.

Bars let out between 1 am and 2
Why did they do these patrols so early in the evening? Wow they got 2 DUI's. If they had done these in a more appropriate time I am almost positive they would have gotten more. Just sayin'

I think you need to get a life. There was no reason for you to get on here and attack tpd1. At least tpd1 came on here and gave an opinion about the story. Who cares if the article said there were troopers and tpd1 called them deputies. Maybe if you had passed K1 you would have been able to get the point of what tpd1 was making without coming on here and making an idiot of yourself!

I am glad to know there were “troopers” out patrolling for safety.

Do a checkpoint at 1:00 am and run it for 1.5 hrs on Mervell Dean Road @ Clarks Landing Road and the other at Tom Hodges Drive in the vicinity of the two bars. Don't forget to bring a short bus. Stupid stuff. Let's conduct a stop at 6 pm when those are the times everyone is going to the damn bar.

Wasted $
I had the misfortune of hitting one of these checkpoints on 235 at FOUR IN THE AFTERNOON! At least the cops seemed to know that there was no point in them being out there, since they were just waving everyone through without stopping anyone. Thanks for the unnecessary half hour traffic delay!

I'm so glad my tax dollars could pay for a dozen cops to stand around and get tan all afternoon... Whoever approved this epic waste of resources should be arrested for criminal misappropriation of public funds (and no I'm not joking).

Next time someone claims that I complain about cops for no reason, remember this article:

Dozens of cops + hours of checkpoints + large amounts of your tax money + countless hours of innocent motorists' time wasted = 2 arrests.

With this anti-cop gentleman, if the cops do A, he complains about B. If they do B, he complains about A. If he can't complain about A or B then he calls the deputies cowards.

Why don't you attend the citizens academy that is being advertised by the Sheriffs office. You'll be able to stand face to face with Sheriff Cameron and tell him all you know about running a Sheriffs office and everything that he and the command staff are doing wrong. I'd pay to see that!

Only you two would think a checkpoint that uses a huge amount of resources with an outcome of 2 cars being stopped for DUI. Not to mention the fact that bars let out at 2am, and they ended at 11pm...

What this story doesnt say is that there was 2 checkpoints...704 cars passed through...and 3 DWI/DUI arrests. Oh yea, and if traffic backs up, they just open the flood gates and let everyone drive right on by.

to anyone who reads this, Chris0nllyn's quote under my name was a copy of a private message sent to him, theBus and Iknowimright. I suggested they attend the citizens academy so they could better understand what our deputies go thru. If they didn't like that, I suggested that they could speak directly with Sheriff Cameron and his command staff and tell them what they were doing wrong. Chris is the only one of the three to respond. He told me that he would not attend. Perhaps he doesn't have the testicular fortitude to stand up and tell the Sheriff what he's doing wrong.

I did it via the private message so everyone wouldn't see it but now Chris has decided to post it for all to see.

Now CHRIS, to answer your question, No, I won't be there. I have already attended 2 of these. I took the opportunity to educate myself so I would better understand. Something that apparently, you refuse to do.
To me, that speaks volumes about your character!

It just so happens to be the exact same thing you sent me in a PM. Why don't you post what I told you, and WHY i won't attend?

I'm not driving an hour from home, to listen to cops talk about their day. I go to night classes 4 nights a week, and don't get home until 10pm Mon-Thurs. Now, if this academy is Thursdays at 6pm, how do suggest I make the meetings? If I want to hear about a cop's day, I'll ask my friends who are Calvert, PG, and DC cops...OMG, the "cop hater" has cop friends!!!!!!!!!

My answers:
1. Does not pay well enough for me
2. Didn't want to work shift work
3. Wasn't willing to put my life on the line
every time I went to work.
4. Couldn't work with the lowest 1% of
society every day.

Those reasons above were enough for me. It's also the reason I have such great respect for the men and women who DO the job.

Now, why do you hold the men and women who do the job in such contempt?

Your suggestion to meet would be gladly accepted (believe me fool) if only you could meet your own terms. A conversation between two adults would in fact require two adults. You don't qualify! Again grow the hell up first then post something that isn't cut and pasted from somewhere else.

Exact same reasons for me.

YOU are the one who think's I'm a cop hater, not me. So, you tell me why you think I hold them in contempt? Especially since I'm friends with cops.

All I've ever said is that I don't like their tactics. Not all, but some. I don't like the fact that I'm more afraid that the cop in my rear view mirror is going to write me a ticket for window tint, tinted taillights, loud exhaust, ANYTHING that will give them a reason to stop you. There are astill major crimes out there that have yet to be solved, and cops are waiting time on filling jail cells with non-violent offenders.

Does that mean ALL cops do it? No, I've met plenty of very nice cops, and I've been nothing but positive and respectful to them. It's the cops that use the badge as some sort of power trip that I'm talking about. Just because you were a badge doesn't mean you are above anyone, nor does it mean I (or anyone) should be worshipping the ground they walk on.

they found 1 dui or dwi, or twenty! That is one idiot that won't have the chance to kill me or my kids. Ever see the web page of Baby Ava? Take a look. Thank you to all the Troopers and Sheriff's Deputies out there at what ever time they are there, to catch someone breaking the law. Anyone who is so much inconvenienced by all the traffic slow downs, just ride a bike or walk to work on these special days. Better yet hitchhike and maybe you will be picked up by a drunk driver.
