Just before 10 a.m. Feb. 22, Prince George’s County Firefighters and Paramedics responded to an aircraft crash.

The incident occurred in the area of Freeway Airport located in the 3900 block of Church Road in Bowie.

A Cessna 172 single-engine Skyhawk aircraft occupied by 3 adults had approached the airport and attempt to land. Visibility was less than 500 feet at the time with light snow falling.

At some point during the attempt to land the pilot attempted to abort the landing and pull back up.

The aircraft crashed, nose-first, into an open field about 300 yards from the end of the runway.

Two adult males seated in the front of the aircraft sustained fatal injuries. An adult female, seated in a rear seat, was able to free herself from the wreckage and walk a short distance before airport personnel assisted her back to the airport.

Paramedics transported the adult female to an area trauma center with serious injuries to her upper body.

The Maryland State Police are investigating the crash.
