In September 2009, the Calvert Investigative Team initiated an investigation into a series of residential burglaries occurring in the southern portion of Calvert County.

During the course of the investigation Detectives found that the stolen items consisted of flat panel televisions, laptop computers, digital cameras and power tools.  On Sept. 4, of this year a residential burglary occurred at a private residence on Catalpa Road in St. Leonard.  During the evening of Sept. 4, Detective Scott Brown was contacted by a private citizen who reported that he purchased a television from an individual later identified as Kenneth Allen Charest.  Detective Brown met with the citizen and confirmed that the television was the same as that stolen during the burglary on Catalpa Road.   Detective Brown also learned that Charest sold additional items including a laptop computer as well as another television.  A check of these items revealed that they were stolen during the burglary of a private residence on Windsong Lane in St. Leonard.

Charest, 28 of Lusby, was subsequently arrested on Sept. 29 and charged with two counts of first-degree burglary and theft over $500 and is currently being held at the Calvert County Detention Center.

The Calvert Investigative Team is seeking any assistance from persons that may have purchased items from Charest or where attempts were made to sell property.  The investigation is ongoing relating to similar events and the Calvert Investigative Team is requesting the support of anyone that may have purchased items from Charest.

For additional information or to report items sold by Charest please contact The Calvert Investigative Team – Detective Scott Brown (410) 535-1600 X 2456.
