At approximately 1:11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13, multiple area fire units responded to the abandoned house at the corner of North Sandgates Road and Three Notch Road in Mechanicsville for a working house fire.
When units arrived on the scene, two sides of the house were involved on the first floor. Approximately 28 firefighters were able to quickly knock the bulk of the fire, knocking it down about 1:18 a.m. Due to the circumstances surrounding the fire, the Fire Marshall was called to investigate.
A one-gallon jug containing an unidentified liquid was found by firefighters at the scene. Fire units continued an extensive mop up operation, battling a number of small fires at the scene. The fire was declared under control at approximately 1:45 a.m.
The fire remains under investigation.

Who is resonsible for this property? Seems emergency crews have been tied up several times in the past for arson fires at this location. I would think the county would insist the eye sore be cleaned up and hauled away before someone gets hurt.
Hahahaha! Did you see the "For Rent" sign outside of it? I laughed so hard when I saw it. I wish they would just take that awful place down!! It ruins the "Steamed Crabs" sign view!
Why they just don't tear the damn thing down. It would be a hell of alot cheaper than having the Fire Dept. and Police keep responding because someone wants to act like a retard!
actually i didn't and i went passed it Sunday morning; I thought it was just self-deteriorating but did noticed that the area behind it appeared to be getting cleaned up.
Why not let the house burn down completely instead of putting the fire out? They'd probably be doing the owners a favor. Aren't there ordinances that would require it to be torn down?
