On July 3, members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to two local businesses in reference to an unknown suspect stealing women’s purses. The first theft occurred at 11:30 a.m. at Giant in Prince Frederick, the second occurred minutes later at Wal-Mart also in Prince Frederick. The victims had briefly turned away from their shopping carts leaving their purses unattended. Det. S. Brown of the Calvert Investigative Team was assigned these cases for further investigation.
During the course of the investigation Det. Brown reviewed surveillance footage and identified Carl Joseph Siegel, 24 of Chesapeake Beach, as a suspect in the thefts. Det. Brown contacted and interviewed Siegel who admitted stealing the purses from the victims at Giant and Wal-Mart.
Charges related to these cases are pending.
