Chancellor's Run Road is opening back up now. Pictures and details to come as they become available.

Due to a gas leak, a section of Chancellor’s Run Road has been closed and is expected to remain closed for two to three hours.

Chancellor’s Run Road is closed from Fire Dept Lane to Rte. 235 and traffic is being diverted to Rte. 235 on Buck Hewitt Road. The cause of the leak is not known and Washington Gas is on the scene.

No evacuation order has been issued; State Highway Administration, the Sheriff’s Office and the County’s Department of Public Safety are coordinating the situation.

Contact the Public Information Office at (301) 475-4200 ext. 1342 with any questions.

On June 29 at approximately 11:30 a.m., TheBAYNET.com learned that Chancellor's Run Road between Buck Hewitt and Route 235 is in the process of being shut down by authorities due to a six inch gas main leak.

Washington Gas has been called and is heading toward the scene from Prince George's County. Estimates are that the leaking main gas line will take from between two and half to three hours at a minimum to repair after Washington Gas arrives. Their arrival is expected within the hour.

Authorities are attempting to sort through traffic tie-ups in an effort to close the road at this time. Motorists are cautioned to seek alternate routes and to avoid the area.
