Accident Near Spring Ridge Middle School Closes 235 in Both Directions

LEXINGTON PARK - 6/25/2009

TheBAYNET.com is on the scene of a multiple car accident with multiple personal injuries which has closed Rt. 235 in both directions. It is known at this time that at least three cars were involved in the accident and that a juvenile was flown out by Trooper 4 to Children's Hospital.

Rescue crews responded to this serious motor vehicle accident with injuries in Lexington Park at approximately 4:40 p.m. on June 25 in the 19800 block of Three Notch Road near Spring Ridge Middle School.

Initial reports indicate six people were injured including one person who was trapped. First responders had to complete the extraction prior to transporting other patients. Maryland State Police are on the scene working the reconstruction investigation and the road closure is expected to continue for some time before authorities are done their investigation.

More details will be provided as they become available.

Double trouble
The accidents were practically in drive way. The FIRST accident happened which involved two cars. And the homeless man that wanders down 235 aimlessly all the time. Then as that wreck is being taken care of BANG!!! Three houses down another wreck happens. That is the one that is mentioned in the write up. The way is sounded there were NO brakes at all...and you know they were probably doing at least 60 mph. Its 9:30 and parts of the road are still block and I can still see the cops out there working the scene.

i went through at 9:30 last night and the roads were not blocked off at all any more.

i'm thinking the gentleman in the black silverado was allen cohey. i hope he and everyone else is alright.

any story on how this happened?

it happened in front of my home.
the green jeep was coming here, in fact they were turning into my driveway when the black truck driving at a high rate of speed just smashed in the back of them. he is just fine in fact he is a paramedic and was more worried about his truck than the 14 year old boy trapped in the jeep.
he could have come to assist me and my neighbor, and instead he sat in the passanger side of his truck after he walked around it and did nothing, when a paramedic that was in an accident just up the street left her scene and came to assist keep in mind she was just in a car accident.
i am so pissed that this man was more concerned for his limited edition truck than what he had caused. along with that a blue car dodged off the road to avoid hitting the jeep head on and ended up in my front yard.
had she hit them it would have been more devistating than it was, and believe me it was bad.
mom is okay, younger brother is okay, older friend is okay, but the 14year old is still in trauma unit in dc.
he is a great kid his family is awsome and i pray for him. i will be going up to see him tomorrow, i hope and pray he wakes up as he still has not...

Geez.
My friend was in the accident. He got flew out and from what i understand. He got a few stiches and lost some teeth, but he might be coming home today. My thoughts are with him and his family.

Strange only a little part of the real story here
Strange thebaynet doesn't mention that the person at fault in this accident was an off-duty Lexington Park volunteer who was racing to the scene to gawk, going 80 in a personal vehicle, when they crashed into a mother and her two kids without touching the brakes, breaking one kid's pelvis and putting the other in a coma. Go volunteers! and Thanks for a most authorative story bayonet!

So, you know for a fact that he was racing to the scene to gawk? I highly doubt it. There's no doubt he was driving like a moron, but your wrong for placing a stereotype on the entire volunteer organization in the county. The first accident was a PD only, not a PI. It wasn't broadcast over the pagers for a call. The only way he could have heard it was through a POLICE scanner. So, therefore, he was an ordinary citizen at the time and not a volunteer medical provider. Don't get stupid and put a stereotype on a group as a whole for what one person did in his offtime.
TheBayNet wrote this article up without an official police report, so of course they can't get all the details. When/if the police report comes out, you'll get more information.
That said, EVERYONE goes through there flying like morons. For some reason, they think 50 means 75 in a school zone. The police go through there sometimes, but they don't go through when most of the speeders come flying down. Most of them are either college kids or people from the base.

You forgot to mention all the drunk drivers that SPEED on friday and saturday nights down this road....its insane how many people think its cool to speed just because its on the outskirts of town.

Just to clarify, the individual driving the Black Silverado SS is a member of Bay District Fire Department, not of Lexington Park Volunteer Rescue Squad, and he does not hold a Paramedic certification.

Does anyone know if the young boy is out of the hospital yet. This was a very avoidable accident, and I dont understand why the whole story wasnt covered. Was it because a Volunteer caused it, if what you say is true? Why are they trying to hide the truth. Karma is a B**** and he will get what he deserves!!!

TheBayNet shows no bias when writing articles like this. The story was released as a breaking news story, in which a brief summary of what's happening occurs. Then, an update was posted of what they had known at the time. When a police report is released, it'll be posted here again.

Full Story!!
My name is Trish Elliott. I am the niece and cousin of the woman and two kids in the green jeep. Here is everything that is going on since no one has the full story. My aunt was driving, my 9 year old cousin was in the passengers seat, the 14 year old boy,(my cousin who was life flighted which i do not feel the need to give out his name), was in the back passenger seat, and his friend was in the back driver side seat. When the moronic firefighter hit them going 80 mph while they were at a dead stop, my aunts seat broke and she passed out due to a concussion leaving my 14 year old cousins friend trapped under her. My 9 year old cousin was fine and climbed out of the window and walked to the grass. My 14 year old cousin was trapped in the jeep and knocked out due to a concussion. They had to cut my aunt and the friend out of the jeep but they are doing fine. My 14 year old cousin was life flighted to the DC children's hospital. He lost some teeth, has a laceration from the corner of his mouth to his jaw that had to be stitched, he had to get stitches all the way around his gums in the front, and has a broken pelvis with 4 to 5 cracks in it and it has shifted down on his right side. They had him on a breathing tube because he couldn't breathe on his own and they put a tube in his stomach to pump it because he had internal bleeding. They moved him to the adult hospital in DC Friday because they knew more about the pelvic area. They thought he had a brain contusion because when the doctors told him to squeeze their hand it was taking him about 2 minutes before he would do so. They did another ct scan and found that his brain was ok but found a few more cracks in it so surgery is now an option. I found out today (June 27th) that he is too weak to make blood so they started giving him blood. I found out at about 1 AM that he is doing better and feeling his pain which is mostly on the right side. The doctors don't want to give him any more pain medication at the moment because they want him to become more responsive so they can give him better pain medication that will keep him responsive while numbing the pain. They have him in a sling to keep his right side up higher because most of the pain was coming from his shifted pelvis. Everyone else is fine and I could care less about the firefighter because he should NOT have been driving that fast in his own personal vehicle and for him to be that ignorant as to not check to see if my family and friend were okay puts me in awe. He would feel the same exact way if it would've happened to his family instead of mine so I do NOT feel any regret or remorse to say this to however many people read this. BTW, no one is in a coma. My cousin will remain in ICU for awhile and will not be coming home any time soon. lets clairify that the driver of the truck is a non active member of bay district who has not been active for almost 2 years when he took a job with dc fire department. he was not responding to anything related to bay district. it is a shame that people would belittle a whole VOLUNTER department for the actions of one person. these volunters leave the jobs and families for no compansation but because they have a passion to help those in need. it was bay district that responded to this bad crash and extricated this young man in 12 minuets doing all that they could do to help all those involved. i am one of those volunters that was there and i also know the family personally and my prayers are with them.iwant to say great job to all the volunters that were there and it is great to see the team work it took to give these people a chance for a good out come. again my prayers are with this young man and i hope he has a speedy recovery.

the young man as of sunday is waking up and talking in spurt, this is a good sign for him
he is a fighter, i spoke with his aunt and she said he will wake up and ask questions and then go back to sleep, which is something he wasn't doing.
saw him yesterday took the rest of his team
to see him as well.
they all miss him and are praying everyday.
as are all of us.
he will get better as each day passes this i believe.
just thought those concerned would like to know

This incident is very unfortunate it is a true blessing that nobody was hurt. Trash talking and not knowing the truth isn't very informative. The man in the truck was also taken to the hospital in an ambulance. I don't know the whole story but if someone is not even a paramedic and they too are hurt i'm not sure if that makes sense that someone can be upset about him not helping. There is no comparison to the injury and worry of the other family in the jeep. God Bless the family you are in many of prayers as well as mine. As stated before When a police report is released, it'll be posted here again. So the truth will come out and the truth is not the rumors and opinions of others.

i understand what you are saying.
but it wasn't until after the man in the black truck came back to the scene after the hospital released him, that he showed more concern with his truck.
i was standing right there and listened to him.
yes i was angry. i felt that if a paramedic who was just in an accident 3 houses up could come down and help not at all concerned about herself, if the man was able bodied why then could he not help, after all he did get out and walk around to the passanger side of his truck.
my neigbor and i were the first ones to the jeep. i am not trained in that field but we knew something had to be done to help in any way.
during that time i was not sure who the man was or what he was (dc firefighter) this i found out later and it just seemed to really upset me that he did not do or say anything
the family in the jeep are friends of mine and the 14year old plays for me, so yes maybe i am bias toward him.
but if i had caused something like that i would have done something to help if i was able to. and i definitely would have showed compassion and spoke to someone of the family to let them know how sorry i am.
none of these things have taken place and it angers me.
11 years i have lived here and let me tell you many people drive like idiots up and down this road. in a hurry to go no where.
it just luck that all the times my wife or myself have almost been hit turning into the same driveway, and we say how people drive. that it had to happen to them.
so with that said, my anger is still there toward the guy in the truck and will be for awhile.
it is not over for him, he faces some lawsuits i am sure of it.

I think you're missing the concept. He was in an obvious severe accident. He's not certified as a paramedic. The other woman (who's help is much appreciated by everyone, I'm certain) was in a minor accident rushed to help. The other woman was a member of the Lexington Park RESCUE Squad. If she's a riding member there and not a driver, I'm pretty sure she has EMT-B at best, which will allow her to correctly work on patients. The person involved wasn't an active firefighter with the fire department everyone is saying he's on, but everyone says he must go help.
He's not obligated to help. He was in an accident. He wasn't in a department vehicle, or on duty as a firefighter, so technically he can do what any other citizen does.
I'm in no way excusing what he did, but seriously, to keep bringing up that someone is a firefighter and didn't render aide at an accident scene that he was involved it as ridiculous.

genenovak35, you need to put your feet in this dudes shoes. Seriously, he probably thought that the family members or friends that were on the scene would ambush him or cause drama. Yell at him but speeding and what not, I sure as he** wouldn't want to hear that. He was just in an accident, nervous, shaking and probably wasn't thinking correctly. I am not taking anyones side but to sh** on this guy like that is wrong too.

No one here is really blaming the guy that hit my family as a firefighter because I know I don't give a da** what he is. He is being blamed as a regular person who was going way too fast for the conditions of the road. He just happened to be a non active firefighter which gave people more to talk about. Who really cares what he is anyway? Whether he was a firefighter, a police officer, even the president, he didn't get away with what he did so it doesn't matter anymore. I have no hate towards all firefighters in MD because of what one non active firefighter did. I actually know quite a few of them. And that man shouldn't have had to help but the least he could have done was ask if they were okay when he came around. He will definitely be facing many charges but what matters the most to me is that everyone is okay including that man.

It makes me feel good to know that there are selfless people out there who are willing to risk their lives to help a complete stranger. I don't care whether you just stood around in case someone needed you or what but you were there and that's all that counts and I want you to know that my family thanks you and everyone that helped with the accident and helped my family!

Wow, reading what happened to that young boy brought tears to my eyes! Beginning of summer and he cant even play with his friends, go outside and enjoy the weather, play sports, go on vacation! Instead hes stuck in a hospital bed. I'm so angry about this, I have a 12 year old sister and I cant even imagine watchin her go through something like this. I dont know what I'd do. My prayers are out to the family, and the young boy! Please get better soon!

true he was most likely not thinking clearly
and wanted to avoid the rash of sh** that would come his way if he stepped in.
and i don't care what his status is as a firefighter, i too have friends with the firedepartment, so it really was not that at all. it was pure anger thats it thats all.
it has been almost a week and yes i have chilled a bit on the issue.
family is well the boy is doing better, will be awhile though before he is 100%
and i hope that they go after all they can. after all there will be lots of medical bills and pain and suffering.
nothing can ever change that but compensation can help.

My thoughts and prayers are with the young man and I hope he is doing better.
I moved here just recently, and drivers are constantly flying up, getting right on my bumper (i am no angel..i have gone faster than speed limit but not that fast) and try to intimidate you to get over; they also literally will be next to you and come over into your lane trying to get you to brake so they can get over and get one car ahead. My latest experience was a "lady" in a van who
literally made an illegal u turn in front of me to get to McDonalds! She parked and I was in the drive through with my windows down..I said..Lady, c'mon..I mean really..and she pointed her finger at me and said "You need to learn how to drive." I felt bad that I was in the way of her getting a cheese burger and it ticked her off enough to almost cause an accident..i mean the nerve of me.
