Local Woman Arranges Meeting with Undercover Through Craigslist

During a previous operation that involved a popular website, Suspect Mia Marissa Carroll, 28 of California, was charged with Prostitution and Theft under $500. Suspect Carroll corresponded through a contact site she set up on “Craigslist” and arranged for a meeting with the undercover officer. The meeting took place at a local hotel and she was arrested. She attempted to conceal some of the money on her person as she was taken into custody. 

Carroll was charged on a Criminal Summons and is awaiting a Preliminary Hearing in the District Court.

The St. Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal Investigations Narcotics Division is an investigative team comprised of Detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office,  Maryland State Police Drug Enforcement Division and Federal Drug Agents. The Division was established on September 1, 2007 and is based in St. Mary’s County..

I am so glad that our local law enforcement took out time from their road blocks (oh excuse me Sobriety Check Points) to surf the internet looking for hookers or did she rip off one of the deputies and now he's taking his revenge?

Sobriety check points are a good thing. They take drunks off of the road and hopefully, keep other drunks from driving as well. If you don't drink and drive, you should have no problems. Are you upset because you, a friend or family member have been caught at a sobriety checkpoint?
Sobriety Checkpoints are funded by the Federal Government and are normally manned by patrol deputies, working overtime, not detectives from BCI.
It seems as though you object to BCI detectives doing their job as well. Perhaps you are the one who got caught previously and are attempting a little payback by trying to trash the Sheriffs office here.
Let me close by saying a big thank you to the Sheriffs deputies who do a difficult job every day. The GOOD citizens of St. Mary's County appreciate it!

of people arrested for DUI, DWI these checkpoints are a good thing. If you've got the money to get drunk,.you've got the money to pay for a cab,...or stay the heck home and drink.

Thankfully...
I'm soooo thankful that my tax dollars are going towards keeping consenting adults from having "illegal" sex.

So we have cops trolling Craigslist contacting men and women to setup meetings for sex. What a waste of tax dollars. Who is to say that the woman would not have done this had they not offered her $500?

I usually side with the law, but busting this morality crime is a waste of time, money, and resources.

Hopefully next time you visit a prostitute, you wont come away with an STD or perhaps AIDS. If you do, you may pass it on to your next partner or perhaps your wife. If it's your wife, maybe she'll give it to your child. So maybe your 1 visit to a prostitute may end breaking up your family, or, in the worst case scenario, passing along a deadly disease to someone you love. That doesn't sound victimless to me!

they were meeting to have sex so what. It becomes illegal when money is exchanged. That's the difference between someone looking for a good time, and a hooker.

It never fails to amaze me the amount of people who object to the enforcement of so called "morality" crimes or "victimless" crimes.

The fact of the matter - they are crimes. It is the sworn duty of all law enforcement officers to enforce the law, including those laws people don't agree with.

Solution: Run for office, change the laws you don't like. Or elect somebody who will do that for you. Make an effort to change what you don't like instead of sitting at your keyboard biaching about it.

Until the law(s) you don't like are changed, deal with it.

And tell your mom to stop posting on Craigslist.

Most of you posting on here are ultra conservative, family morals, christian army type...just like the Governor of S.C., LOL.
Who cares is the question. If I get pay for sex does it affect you personally? Will the arrest of a prostitue or a customer stop that behavior in others? If someone cheats on their spouse with or with out a prostitute, does it make a difference? Or are you all implying that if it weren't for prostitutes there would be no AIDs, STD,s or infidelity? Get a life you morons. The cops could better spend their time moonlighting in WAWA after hours instead of trying to implant their own morality or belief system on this free society. Homer, your mom owes me 15 dollars in change for her services. I gave her a $20. I see she finally raised her price.

I have not been arrested for DUI nor has any of my family and my driving record is rather good. I have friends who have been arrested for DUI and they deserved it. However I do object to having to stop and and prove I am inocent of drinking and driving. Yes I have heard if it saves one life then it is worth it. With that mentality then why not ban all private driving and save thousands of lives a year. I still say a good officer doing roving patrol is your best deterent. Provided the judical system backs the officer up.

I have to let people know, you can't believe everything you read. I believe in this country, it is innocent until proven guilty. I actually read the report for this one and as I understand it, her ad requested a donation for her "time and companionship only". The young lady did not offer anything sexual in nature, however, the undercover officer paid her $400 for 2 hours of her time, then demanded that she perform specific sexual acts, which she refused to agree upon. The young lady placed his money on the table and attempted to leave. At that time she was not charged or arrested. She was only infomally charged 3 months later, because craigslist shut down the adult personals section of the website. Being that they could no longer obtain arrests from the site, they pursued charges against a young lady who never agreed to a "sex for money" proposition.

Can you explain what "infomally charged" is?
I am not refering to the typo here, what is an informal charge?

I guess her attorney will have an easy time in court. After all, that's how the system works, correct?

An informal charge is when a police officer never actually arrests you, handcuffs you and makes you see the commissioner. They simply deliver you a court date. This is commonly done in regards to petty crimes or when the officer believes that the charges may not stand up in court.

There is no such thing. People are charged on a criminal summons at various times but that has nothing to do with the validity of the crime.
