On June 12, at 10:56 p.m., TFC J. Fleetwood and Tpr. B. Wiesemann were traveling south bound Point Lookout Road in the area of Chaptico Road in Mechanicsville, when an oncoming orange Chevrolet Corvette crossed the double line almost striking TFC Fleetwood’s marked MSP unit.

TFC Fleetwood made a u-turn and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.  Upon contact with the driver, George Bruthiewicz, 49 of Mechanicsville, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emitting from his breath. Bruthiewicz was injured prior to the traffic stop.  He was subsequently arrested for DUI.  He was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital to be checked for his prior injuries.  While at St. Mary’s Hospital, Bruthiewicz became unruly and assaulted a hospital security officer while being restrained.  Bruthiewicz was subdued and checked out for his injuries.

He was later transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center where he was charged with DUI, second-degree assault and numerous traffic offenses.  He was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
