Car Goes Airborne in Owings, Fly-Out

At approximately 6:20 a.m. on Saturday June 6, fire and rescue units from Dunkirk and Huntingtown responded to the scene of a single car accident at State Route 4 and Skinners Turn Road in Owings. Upon arrival, first responders found a single car in a field a good deal from the roadway.

First responders discovered a single male patient trapped in the vehicle and had to extract him before having him transported by Maryland State Police helicopter Medevac to Prince Georges Hospital.

Calvert accident investigators are continuing to investigate the accident in which it is estimate that the vehicle went airborne once and perhaps as many as two times, striking a tree some 30 feet in the air.

No word on the condition of the patient at this time. When authorities issue an official statement, that information will be provided as an update to this story.

...if excessive speed and alcohol had anything to do with this crash. Ya think?

Traffiuc Enforcement
You kniw I have NOT commented on the numerous horrendous traffic colissions in Calvert County since I last posted about my ideas and platform when briefly considered for the position of Sheriff, between those two sterling ethical role models Ward and Bartlett.

Here we have yet another example of a complete lack of detection and consequence in the completely absent aggressive speed and traffic enforcement in the county.

Can anyone fathom the horror of six little children perhaps, or a crowd of people at a barbecue right on that lawn?

When is enough, enough? When are we going to see a real police officer do his job on that TV show Speeders? It's a complete joke to watch what must be a 50,000 dolar covert vehicle stop a ciolator and its all smiles and kumbaia.

"People adjust their driving to the level of enforcement"

Obviously there is NO enforcement.

When are we going to see a strong enforcement presence in Calvert with follow through by the courts??????

Does anyone give a damn about victims anymore????

ARE YOU SERIOUS! How long have you lived in Calvert and do you ever leave your house? There are cops EVERYWHERE!!!!! I think it's absolutely ridiculous because as small as this town is....soon enough there will be more cops then citizens!

Police can't be everywhere 24/7, if you don't like the way it is then why don't you apply to become a police officer. How about less talk and a lot more action... Your bickering about the police isn't going to do a damn thing.

I know Calvert County and the Sheriff Officers are doing a great job. These type of accidents happen everywhere, St. Mary, Charles, AA County, PG County. It's not the law enforcement, it's individuals behind the wheel. There is a lot of traffic enforcement in Calvert County. Probably more than any other county in the area. Most of these serious accidents in the county I believe are caused by drivers who live in other counties and not in Calvert.

Bumper in the tree?
I want to know how in the world he got enough air lift to leave his bumper in the tree. The first embankment was too far away from the tree and there didn't look like much of a second ramp for him to make it that high. He had to be going at least 100 mph.

That person was lucky not to die in that car. He's also lucky that he didn't hurt/kill someone else.

I think the bumper came off when the car went over that little embankment and flew in the air, or a bounce of the ground. I looked at a chart on the internet and at 100 MPH and object can travel 146 feet per second when coming to a pretty hard stop. Bumpers these days look like they have very little weight.

noticed the temp tags also. Is there any update on this yet? Passed the rollback with this truck on it Sat am and it was horrible looking. Wondering how the guy is doing.

asleep at the wheel...
seeming it was 6:20am it could be possible that the person fell asleep at the wheel. Everyone just always assumes that it was from alcohol but that person could have been driving all night to get home or whatever. I just hope that this person is all right. That is a pretty good launch!

I would like to know
..what the status of this patient is. I keep checking back to see if there has been an update. I encountered this lunatic on that morning just minutes before his "lauch", reported to the authorities and was witness to his outrageous behavior. I am thankful that he only hurt himself.
