On May 9 at 7:57 p.m. DFC Brianne Gray responded to a home on C Street in Chesapeake Beach for a firearms complaint. Callers to the Calvert County Control Center advised hearing one gunshot and a dog yelping.
Upon arrival, DFC Gray observed a suspect, later identified as Sean McCarthy O’Conner, 42, come out of a residence stating that he was the one who shot the dog because it was going to bite people. The dog was found to be injured with a gun shot wound to the leg. The dog was transported to the Mid-Atlantic Animal Specialty Hospital in Huntingtown for emergency treatment. The dog’s condition was reported to be stable.
O’Conner was arrested and charged with animal cruelty, causing, procuring and authorizing the cruel attempted killing of an animal, discharging a firearm within 150 yards of a residence and intoxication and endangerment of the safety of citizens.
