Final Call for Entries for Upcoming Art Show
SOLOMONS - 3/14/2009
|
There are only a few weeks left to apply to Annmarie Garden’s upcoming summer exhibit, Wild Things, which will consist of artworks inspired by animals. Deadline to apply is March 31. Applications can be found at www.annmariegarden.org. Call (410) 326-4640 to obtain a hard copy. Wild Things will be the anchor exhibit during the high tourist season of Solomons, May 31 thru August 30. The exhibit will be installed in Annmarie Garden’s Arts Building, a spectacular exhibition hall that opened in May 2008. A few outdoor works will also be considered for Wild Things. Wild Things is a national juried exhibition of works impelled by the animal – from amoeba to zebra, extinct to extant, real to imagined. The jury seeks pieces revealing the anima, the vital breath or soul of animals, and works reflecting the diversity of animals - from microscopic to enormous, from active to sedentary, from simple to complex. The call is open to all media with the goal of creating a diverse and exciting exhibition. Ultimately, each piece selected for the show must vitally locate its genesis in the appearance, shape, sound, smell, energy, diet, behavior, history, prehistory, or folklore of wild things. The show will be juried by Dr. Don Moore, Associate Director for Animal Care at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, and Prof. Sue Johnson, Dept. of Art & Art History, St. Mary’s College of Maryland. This distinguished jury will also present over $3500 in cash awards to exceptional works chosen for the exhibit. The deadline to apply is March 23. A complete prospectus may be downloaded at www.annmariegarden.org . Hard copies may be obtained by calling (410) 326 - 4640. Annmarie Garden Sculpture Park & Arts Center is a thirty-acre public sculpture park and arts center located on Dowell Road in Solomons, Maryland, just off Route 2/4. The Arts Building is open Tuesday-Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to Annmarie Garden, including the exhibits, is $3 for adults; $2 for seniors; $2 for children ages 5-12; kids under 5 are free; AMG members are free.
