CALVERT COUNTY - 3/7/2009

Sheriff Mike Evans will appear on WBAL Channel 11 News on Sunday, March 8 between 7:15 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. to talk about information that is available for victims of domestic violence as well as hearing-impaired drivers.

The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Deputies currently provide a packet of information for victims when they respond to a call for domestic violence. The packet includes a helpful pamphlet of the rights and services offered to crime victims and witnesses, information and phone numbers for the Crisis Intervention Center (operated by the Calvert County Health Department) and informational leaflets regarding sexual assaults.  Victims will also be provided with contact information for Phyllis Poole, Victim Advocate with the Calvert County Health Department.  Ms. Poole works out of the Sheriff’s Office as the Law Enforcement Liaison.

The Sheriff will also provide information on a “visor card” that hearing-impaired drivers can obtain from any deputy or the Sheriff’s Office to place in their vehicle notifying law enforcement personnel that the driver cannot hear so that the officer does not think they are simply not complying with demands.
