UPDATE: Names Released in California Head-on-Collision, Patients Seriously Injured

On Feb. 23, at  6:50 a.m., a traffic collision occurred on Patuxent Beach Road in the area of South Patuxent Beach Road in California.  Vehicle #1, a 2008 Ford was northbound on Patuxent Beach Road traveling towards Calvert County.  The driver of vehicle #1, Jeremy Blass, 33 of Lexington Park, crossed the centerline and side swiped southbound vehicle #2, a 1998 Nissan driven by John Broadus, 22 of Lusby. Vehicle #1 then continued and struck southbound vehicle #3, a 2006 Toyota driven by Paula Webber, 49 of Lusby.  Southbound vehicle #4, 2008 Hyundai, operated by Paul Walton, 38 of Lusby, simultaneously ran into the rear of vehicle #3.  The drivers of vehicles #2 and #4 were uninjured.

Jeremy Blass and Paula Webber were both flown to Prince George’s Shock Trauma by Maryland State Police Helicopters Trooper 7 and Trooper 2 and are expected to survive.


According to TBN Photographer John Douglass who was on the scene and from those working the scene, at approximately 6:50 this morning, a male driving a blue Ford Focus on Patuxent Beach Road in California, said he fell asleep. His car hit a Toyota Rav4 head on, the engine in the focus ended up next to te gaurd rail about 50 feet from the car. After the initial impact, the Rav4 collected a Hyundai Sonata and a Nissan Maxima.

Fire and rescue personnel from multiple jurisdictions had to extract two seriously injured patients from vehicles. Both Trooper 2 and Tropper 7 were called to transport victims. The medevac helicopters arrived with minutes of each other and flew patients to PG Trauma.

TBN Reporter Kristen Leitch reports that traffic is backed up at least one quarter mile past Dowell Road in Calvert in the southbound direction. Traffic in St. Mary's along 235 is flowing and those on Route 4 beyond the birdge on the St. Mary's side are beginning to move.

 


St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and Maryland State Police report that the road will reopen about 8:15, Police will remain on the scene to direct traffic around the clean-up effort as fast as possible.

 


At approximately 7 a.m. on Monday, Feb 23, there was a serious multiple car accident on Route 4 between 235 and the Thomas Johnson Bridge. The road is closed completely. There are reportedly multiple injuries requiring extraction from vehicles and multiple Trooper Medevac helicopters are on the way to the scene for multiple fly-outs. One car hit so hard that the engine flew from the vehicle and landed approximately 50 feet from the accident scene, coming to rest in the roadway.

Fire, Rescue and Police are still extracting victims from the accident. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes. The roadway is expected to be closed for some time. TBN will up date the road closure as soon as word comes in and a full story will follow.
