On Feb. 10 at 4:26 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to an apartment in the 6300 block of Fennel Place in La Plata for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

The initial investigation has revealed the victim and five other adults were playing video games in the victim’s apartment when a group of male suspects forced entry into the residence. The suspects were armed with firearms, forced everyone to lie on the ground and demanded money. One of the suspects shot the victim and the suspects all fled the scene. None of the witnesses was injured.

The suspects were described as black males wearing dark clothing. Their faces were partially covered by masks. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle but no further description of it is available. Detectives believe the victim was targeted but the motive remains under investigation.

Charles County Crime Solvers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest or indictment in this investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-866-411-TIPS. All callers remain anonymous.

The victim's name is not being released until the next of kin have been notified.
